Additional Information: Carpet from Soviet Azerbaijan, 1965, celebrating the successes of Soviet space travel. The carpet shows a man flying to space from the Soviet Union, with rockets and satellites zooming about around him. The border is decorated with a portrait of Lenin as well as portraits of various Soviet cosmonauts including Yuri Gagarin, Valentina Tereshkova, Gherman Titov and others. The carpet was one of several created by Mujiri throughout the 1960s celebrating the Soviet space program.
